The Creekside West annual Fishing Derby continues to be postponed. During the April meeting of the Creekside West Village Master Association Board of Directors, a discussion took place regarding when it may be possible to host a fishing derby.

In an early post, the Board announced the 2021 Fishing Derby was postponed due to a strange bacteria attacking California’s trout supply. The bacteria affected fisheries throughout the entire state. Out of an abundance of caution, and to preserve the health of our lake, we were unable to stock fish for the 2021 Fishing Derby.

There is a silver lining though! Due to low activity in the lake, the clarity of the water has been the best the community has seen in years. The situation has also provided an opportunity for the ecosystem to improve in size and resilience. The Board is discussing alternatives to the trout derby, such as allowing residents to fish for schools of carp that have flourished thanks to lake preservation efforts.
